Four kinds of hearing loss
When any part of the hearing system can’t do its job, a loss of hearing results. It may be partial or total, temporary or permanent.

Conductive

Damaged, diseased or
malformed outer or middle ear;
Sounds are weak, muffled.

Mixed

Combined conductive
and sensorineural
hearing loss

Sensorineural

Damaged or malformed inner ear.
Some sounds distorted or heard incorrectly.

Central

Damage or malformation makes
brain receive signals incorrectly.
