Activities
and Diet:
Go directly home after your surgery.
You
may be sleepy for the next 24 hours.
Keep surgical areas elevated on
pillows if possible.
Cough and deep breath two or three
times every hour.
When getting up to walk always
have someone with your for the first 24 hours.
Eat small amounts of easily digestible
foods.
Do not eat greasy or spicy foods
the first post-op night.
Medications:
Always take paid medications with food to prevent nausea. Take pain
mediations as prescribed Pain medications take 30-45 minutes to work.
If pain is increasing and it is time for your next pain pill, take
one. Do not wait for for the pain to become unbearable. If you experience
nausea try decreasing your pain medication if possible.
Dressing
and Bathing: Keep your dressings
clean and dry unless specifically instructed otherwise. Do not shower
or bath until the doctor says you may.
Call
the Doctor If You:
Run a temperature over 101.
Experience chest pain.
Have difficulty breathing.
Have excessive bleeding.
Have nausea and vomiting that
does not stop after pain medications are decreased.
Break out in a rash.
Have difficulty urinating.
