TWO WEEKS BEFORE SURGERY:
Confirm surgery date with our office
Arrange for a place to stay if you are not from the San Diego
area
You must have a companion for the first 24 hours after surgery.
We must know their name and phone number.
If you are over 40 years of age it is advisable to have an
EKG, chest x-ray, and complete physical by your private physician
at least some time during the preceding twelve months.
Review the list of aspirin containing compounds and do not
take any for at least two weeks prior to surgery.
Try to stop smoking four weeks before surgery.
ONE
WEEK BEFORE SURGERY:
Be sure your lab tests are complete.
Do not expose your face to the sun.
Arrange for any facial treatments or hair coloring at this
time.
DAY
BEFORE SURGERY:
Confirm time with our office.
Shampoo hair for facial surgery.
Wash face with special soaps.
Take all medicines as prescribed.
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
DAY
OF SURGERY:
Wash face well, brush teeth, no makeup on eyes or face.
Wear a buttoned shirt and flat shoes. No pull over clothing
or panty hose.
Leave at home: contact lenses, jewelry, money, and handbags.
We will not be responsible.
Please be on time.
Leave name, phone and location where you will be the evening
following the surgery with the receptionist or nurse.
We will discuss your post-operative care with your companion.
Bring sunglasses.
AT
HOME:
Iced gauze pads are helpful continuously until night time and
for up to 3 weeks after surgery.
Oozing from the incisions is normal.
Try to eat a light soft meal.
Excessive bleeding, discoloration, swelling or fever over 101
degrees are not normal. Call the office.
NEXT
MORNING:
Check in with us for a progress report.
Keep the compress on the eyes.
Place ointment where instructed.
Don't strain your eyes, but you can try to read.
FOLLOW-UP:
On the second day the eyes will be more swollen and on eye
may look different from the other. This is not uncommon.
Sutures will be removed in a few days. Don't strain the eyes,
the wounds could open.
POST-OPERATIVE
CARE:
Make-up and exercise can be resumed within 10-14 days.
Alcohol and smoking will impede your healing.
Tearing, burning, tightness, itching, puffiness, bumpiness
are all normal and will disappear at different times in different
patients.
It is advisable to have a 3, 6, and a 12 month checkup
If you are out in the sun, use a sun screen cover base to protect
the skin.
